I met Russ when he visited our BNI chapter and was very impressed with his service and knowledge in his field, it was just what we were looking for to tick many boxes for our company.
Firstly, in today's society, so much responsibility is placed on the shoulders of the Company Directors (in the eyes of the law), it's imperative all Health & Safety precautions and education are delivered correctly and recorded. Russ took away the headache of ensuring we check our driver’s competence to be on the road, on our behalf and that we supply them with road worthy vehicles.
We already had many things in place such as weekly vehicle checks and our own mechanic, but Russ made them easier to manage and added up to date procedures we didn't realise we needed.
We had all our drivers bring in their licenses so they could be re-checked. Completely unaware, as most people are, that the photo card versions expire after 10 years. Thanks to Russ's education, we removed an uninsured driver from the road until his renewal arrived and saved ourselves a £1000 fine!
The second but most important reason for us to use Russ's skills was to reward our hard working staff with a brilliant skidpan day. We wanted to reward them all and it was truly amazing! We all really enjoyed it and came away very high on adrenaline...great fun. More importantly with a heightened respect and knowledge of how to handle a vehicle in many adverse weather conditions. From ice, snow and aquaplaning to slippery oily surfaces due to fuel spills.
We also took our 17-year-old son who'd only passed his test days before. I now worry about him a little less knowing he has more skills and experience than he would have had without the skidpan training.
