There are many things to be considered in evaluating the risks of your company drivers. Below is a list of key points which you should take into consideration and which NDAC can help you identify for each individual driver and construct an appropriate training plan for each driver to effectively evaluate their own risk on each journey. Driver Competency – Are your drivers competent and capable of doing their work in a way that is safe for them and other people? Driver Training – Are your drivers properly trained? Driver Fitness and Health – Are your drivers sufficiently fit and healthy to drive safely and not put themselves or others at risk? Vehicle Suitability – Are vehicles fit for the purpose for which they are used? Vehicle Condition – Are vehicles maintained in a safe and fit condition? Safety Equipment – Is Safety equipment properly fitted and maintained? Safety Critical Information – Do your drivers have access to information that will help them reduce risk? Ergonomics – Are your drivers’ safety being put at risk by inappropriate seating position or posture behind the wheel? Routes – Are routes planned thoroughly, avoiding inappropriate road conditions? Scheduling – Are work schedules realistic? Time – Is sufficient time allowed to complete journeys safely? Distance – Are your drivers taking appropriate breaks to reduce the risk of fatigue caused by driving excessive distances? Weather – When planning journeys is enough consideration given to adverse weather conditions? |
